HTC Abandons Infringement Appeal Against Apple

Date : 22/06/2012

With the rising technology the wars between rival companies has also seen new heights. There are more infringements cases being filed in the courtrooms than ever before. The new models in the handsets are claiming copyrights and their violations by other companies. We had seen one such case where HTC had appealed against Apple. Back in February, HTC had filed an infringement case against Apple for the infringement of four of its patents. These patents were claimed to be used by Apple in its iPhone. The prosecutors have however given up on the case and dropped the appeal in the International Trade Commission. The company has given up the case after weighing its options. The company said that they have apparently reconsidered the issue as if has been abandoned by the court. One of technology website gurus said that HTC had done the right thing in moving out of the litigation as it did not seem to go any further on grounds of intellectual property rights.

He said that the case did not have much merit in its appeal against Apple. Though HTC could have afforded on continuing with the case but this would have only annoyed the ITC and the CAFC. HTC is however planning on its future venues on planning the buy S3 graphics. We have also seen current disputes between Apple and Samsung where the former said that the new model S3, by Samsung had violated its intellectual property rights and it was all set to ban the phone from being launched in the US. Samsung has however made it clear that it would launch the handset with five networks in the country as the infringement issues are baseless.

Summary- HTC has given up on the infringement issues that it has been contesting with Apple since February this year.
